In IBM WebSphere Message Queues there are mainly four types of Queues, They are listed as below:

      1. Local Q
      2. Alias Q
      3. Model Q
      4. Remote Q Definition

Types of queues

Local Q

In this type of Local Queues, There are again three types of specifications. They are:

      • Transmission Q
      • Initiation Q
      • Dead Letter Q

Transmission Q - This type of Queue Holds the message that is destined for Remote Q. Whenever communication link is available the message would be forwarded to that Q.

Initiation Q - This local Q in which QMgr puts a message to start an application when certain conditions are satisfied.

Dead Letter Q - This Dead letter Q is used by QMgr and as well as other applications to put the message when they cant deliver the message to the destined Q.

Alias Q

It is a MQ object that can be used to access another Q. This base Q can be local, remote or a shared Q. Will be used for security reasons by MQ Admin's.

Model Q

Template of a Q definition to create a dynamic Q. Used by applications or Q mgr to create a dynamic Q by using the attributes of a Model Q. Dynamic Q can be created as a permanent or temporary basis based on the requirement.

Remote Q

To a program a Q is remote if it is owned by a different Q Mgr. A program can never get a message from local Q. It is only permitted to put a message. A message can be picked only from a local Q.

Other Q's

Shared Q - Type of Q whose messages can be shared by 1 or more Queue managers.
